Description
This carved lion stool turns a simple side table into a piece of sculpture. A standing lion, with a defined face, deeply textured mane and sturdy legs, carries a round top on its back. The dark finish lets the carving read clearly, while ivory-colored dots and petal motifs trace the edge of the top and the ring of the base.
Design details
- Figurative lion support carved with a textured mane and expressive face
- Round top bordered with fine ivory dots and floral, petal-like motifs
- Decorated base ring that echoes the top
- Black finish that contrasts with the light decoration
Styling a carved lion stool
Place it beside a neutral sofa or a leather armchair, in a reading corner or in an entry where the carving can be seen from several sides. It suits natural stone, linen, leather, woven rugs and warm wood, and it holds its own among collected objects and art. Pair it with the openwork Black Bamileke Coffee Stool for a matched dark palette, or with the hand-carved figurative stool for a gallery of sculptural pieces.
Animal stools in the Grassfields tradition
In the Cameroon Grassfields, museums describe carved stools as prestige objects, and big cats, above all the leopard, as royal emblems. This Bamileke-style stool interprets the animal-support form with a maned lion and is offered as decorative furniture; no historical or ceremonial provenance is claimed. Care
Dust with a soft, dry cloth and use a soft brush for carved recesses. Keep the piece indoors, away from standing water, prolonged direct sunlight and heat sources, and use a coaster or mat under drinks, plants and decorative objects. Avoid abrasive cleaners and chemical polishes.
Handcrafted character means small variations in carving, finish and decoration. Styling accessories shown in the photographs are not included.
